Palas at IAC 2026 in Xi'an

The 12th International Aerosol Conference took place from August 31 to September 5 in Xi'an . Held under the theme "Breathe the Same Air, Share a Common Fate," it was the first IAC to be hosted in China and coincided with the 40th anniversary of the International Aerosol Research Association — two milestones that made this year's edition a particular focus of attention in the aerosol community.

What we showed

For atmospheric research, the booth featured the Fidas® 200, the AQ Guard Smart 1000, and the compact Fidas® Smart 100. For work on ultrafine particles, we showed the U-SMPS scanning mobility particle sizer. Also presnted: The Promo® 3000 aerosol spectrometer — fast, high-resolution scanning across a wide size range, with matched condensation particle counters for every concentration range and wick-free operation with self-monitoring and calibration status.

Our contributions to the program

Palas contributed three talks and one poster over the course of the week. Volker Ziegler presented a longterm test of an aerosol spectrometer for PM measurement under harsh meteorological conditions in Finland, and a study on road salting effects on particle number concentration and mass in an Austrian town. Maximilian Uebach presented work linking ultrafine particle, PM2.5, and black carbon measurements to domestic heating activities in a rural German town, and a poster on measurements of airborne fine dust and ultrafine particles at a seaport in southern Italy. A further contribution on indoor PM evolution in crowded ventilated spaces was co-authored by Palas.
